Nicaragua

Nicaragua is a democratic republic located in the heart of Central America. It is the largest of the Central American nations, and hosts the second-largest rainforest in all the Americas. It is unfortunately also one of the poorest; Nicaragua has lagged slightly behind other neighbor nations in terms of tourism — an opportunity which offers great potential transforming the quality of life here. Traditionally, the economy has relied on agriculture — including coffee, tobacco, and cassava. But along with the push for more tourism has come great ambition — including a goal of deriving 90% of the country’s power needs from renewable sources by 2020. The future is sunny for Nicaragua! And so we are excited to join The Chain Collaborative in helping further the idea of sustainability to include holistic community development, so that all people, in even the remotest regions, have access to upward mobility that these changes may bring.
