In pursuing my interest in international development work, I am currently partnered with Mama Hope, a San Francisco-based nonprofit, serving as a Global Advocate Fellow. Mama Hope’s Global Advocate program is a 9-month professional training program for social entrepreneurs. In February 2017, I will leave to spend three months living and working at The Budondo Intercultural Center (BIC) in Budondo, Uganda, where I will learn from and work alongside local leaders to accomplish their dreams of creating self-sustaining projects that empower local women and the community.
A community-based organization, the BIC strives to create a self-sustainable community through entrepreneurial growth. Its primary program—The Suubi Health Center—provides safe and accessible healthcare to a region of 56,000 people who would otherwise not have access. In the past quarter, 2,885 people accessed healthcare services and Suubi conducted 5 community outreach days. 207 women accessed antenatal services, 1193 people partook in family planning sessions, and 42 safe deliveries were carried out. These have been some of the community’s many achievements. Now, due to the limited size of the current facility, construction of a maternity ward and health workers quarters is underway and the BIC is also investing in local businesses helping to serve the community and cover the health clinic’s operational costs. As a Global Advocate Fellow, my goal is to make this happen by raising $20,000 to fund these various projects!
You can help create life-changing projects by making a donation. The process is fast, easy, and secure (and of course tax-deductible). I truly appreciate any support you can provide. It will benefit a wonderful community and help them fulfill their dreams and future projects.
If you can’t make a donation at the moment, here are some other ways to help:
- Share this page on Facebook or any social media outlet.
- Send an email to 3 friends who would be interested in giving to this project. Every little bit helps!
- Lastly, I’m happy to meet and chat about the projects as well. You can email me directly at email@example.com
If you contribute, you too will be part of the community with me and I’m committed to keeping you updated on the good your contribution is doing in real time. I’ll be updating my blog, Facebook, and Instagram, so follow along! 🙂
Curious as to why I’ve committed to supporting the Budondo community? It all starts with my host sister from my time living in Paraguay. Camila. Click here to read the full story.
Thank you so much for your generosity and support!
