We must do better.

Published by Mama Hope | June 10, 2020

MAMA HOPE stands with Black leaders and communities across the globe who are calling for an end to racial injustice.

We recognize that the systems of colonialism and white supremacy that built the global development sector are the same systems that led to the killing of Black Americans – Breonna Taylor, George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many more – at the hands of police.

We strive to dismantle these unjust systems by shifting power into the hands of community leaders. We have long been listening to and learning from Black and Indigenous visionaries. We aim to dismantle oppressive systems by providing community-led organizations with unrestricted funding, approaching our partnerships with love and trust, and promoting the expertise of community leaders everywhere.

We also recognize that we have not done enough and we must do better. Today, we commit to continued learning and increased action. We commit to holding ourselves, our team members, and our global development sector accountable to dismantling systems of white supremacy. We commit to invigorating our fight for racial justice globally.

We will start by dedicating time to look inwards and evaluate our own individual and organizational complicity, reveal our unconscious biases, fix our flawed organizational systems, and continue our anti-racist education. We will share with you our journey towards actionable change, and ask that you join us in a practice of ongoing accountability.

In hope and solidarity,
