Orphaned children, cared for and placed in strong, safe families for healthier communities in Kenya. 

The Kisumu Rescue Center is the next step in the vision of Our Lady of Perpetual Support (OLPS) to offer a wholesome service for addressing HIV in Kisumu. While OLPS centers around three core services (HIV clinic, general health-care clinic, sponsorship for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC)), they actively address the many external effects of HIV in Kisumu: orphans, widows, grandmothers with unexpected mouths to feed, child-led families needing work skills, secondary education for promising students, sexual education in schools and on the list goes.

The Rescue Center is the next piece in this vision. It will be the first point of contact for any orphan brought to OLPS and a safe place to rest, receive nourishment and get counseling. In the succeeding weeks or months, OLPS contacts the extended family and uncovers more of the history of the child while searching for a match within the family. To ease the responsibility of another child, OLPS provides the cost of school fees, offers free health-care at the OLPS clinic and on-going counseling.

This Rescue Center complements an already fluid and highly functional organization. Since inception, Our Lady of Perpetual Support (OLPS) has restored more than 3000 orphans to their home communities. This year alone, OLPS is sponsoring 794 children! Currently, the children stay with the staff at OLPS before they are matched. Those that have no extended family stay long-term with the director. What just got finished?

• The electrical work is wired and piped, awaiting connection with Kenya Power
• The rainwater harvesting system is in place awaiting the storage tanks.
• The septic tank, back-up pit latrines and shower and drainage are finished!
• The metal work for the  window grills is completed and installed.
